Agar.io 2.27.1

Blob eat blob

Size matters. I know, it depends, but when it comes to oversized cannibal cells floating around in a Petri dish, being bigger means you're safer...theoretically. Miniclip has brought you a game about ravenous microscopic organisms.

If you haven't played Agar.io, let me bring you up to date. The title itself is an URL. The game is an online survival challenge where the fattest gets the prize. You start as a smallish blob and move around on a limited plane while having even more limited sight range (just like on Earth). Being a cell your opportunities for growth are by absorbing things smaller than you. The environment contains three types of elements. There are other cells, controlled by other players. There are also food pellets. These are stationary and can be collected to increase in size. The third element are the spiky cells. These are also stationary and pose no threat to younglings but as soon as you get big enough, passing through one will divide you into several small cells, which obviously is not something you might necessarily want, for reasons which will become even more evident in the following section.

Agar.io - near a behemoth

As soon as a cell runs over a considerably smaller cell, it will absorb it and increase in size accordingly. Once you (or all your children) have been absorbed then it's game over.

Gaining in size does come with it's disadvantage. The bigger you are, the slower you will be. This means that smaller cells can almost always avoid being absorbed as long as they move in an efficient manner.

Here's where splitting does help you. By pressing the space bar, you will divide in two, plunging with one half in the direction you are moving. This maneuver can help bigger cells to catch up with smaller ones (i.e. lunch).

The second skill that you will have access to once you grow some ball is ejecting mass. If you find yourself in a tight spot and need to pick up speed, then you can press W to spew a small inert portion of yourself. Just remember that any competent cell can pick it up afterwards, so make sure that it will be you.

Playing and eating score you XP which can be spent on skins. Having a recognizable outer layer can really induce fear into younglings or trigger revenge patterns.

Coming back to Android, Miniclip has redesigned Agar.io's controls to fit the handheld device.

Moving is done in two ways, both by dragging a finger in the direction you want to move while splitting and ejecting have become visible buttons. I must admit that these are not as efficient as a mouse and keyboard but such are the limitations. If you want to play Agar.io on the tram, then you'll have make some sacrifices.

Agar.io - extra skins

Conclusion

The Android port suffers from poorer controls but Agar.io is actually still quite fun. Although moving blobs may not seem like an exciting concept to begin with, there is real drama seeing a poor small cell being chased by a pack of hungry giants who finally corner and absorb it. Will you suffer such a fate? Download and find out, you might just find your next addicting game.
